Fantastic.  The dems are backing down!  They're holding these bullies accountable for trying to turn the American presidency back into a Monarchy.  These guys who preach patriotism, and are so busy calling others un-American, are as "un-American" as it gets.  They're trying to bully the American government and people (and world) into doing things their way, and at any cost.  They're shocked when they're caught....  This is basically the same business as what went on with Libby.  Anyone who doesn't walk lock step with them is treated to a hardball thuggish policy.  Did you know that Patrick Fitzgerald was on the list of attorneys not up to par and who "chafed" against the president for who he "served at the pleasure" of....

of the Libby trial!  The jury begins to deliberate tomorrow...  Many still say this trial took too long in order to try too small a case.  I say, it's all been worth it.  It's taken a real toll of the Bush administration, really exposing the ugly underpinnings of what went on in the lead up to this bogus war.  Of course I'd love to see Libby go to jail, and Cheney get into more trouble.  But, if nothing else happens except for Libby being indicted on at least a few counts, and ultimately pardoned, I'll still be happy.  This case exposed the administration to the light of day, and now (fingers crossed) we'll have the civil trial brought by the Wilson's to look forward to.
Fitzgerald is apparently very cautious, trying only 'slam-dunk' (sp?) cases.  Another lawyer would have indicted Rove (what a searing disappointment that was!), and may have even indicted on the underlying conspiracy to out Plame.  Lord knows, there does seem to be an abundance of evidence... But still, the Libby trial ultimately put the evil Cheney in the spotlight, and it (along with the many investigations to come) has chipped away at the ugly inner workings of this administration....

The Hon. Ron Paul, On The Floor

Don't Do It, Mr. President

Hon. Ron Paul Of Texas
Before the U.S. House of Representatives 02/06/07

02/14/07 "ICH" -- --

It's a bad idea.
There's no need for it.
There's great danger in doing it.
America is against it, and Congress should be.
The United Nations is against it.
The Russians, the Chinese, the Indians, and the Pakistanis are against it.
The whole world is against it.
Our allies are against it.
Our enemies are against it.
The Arabs are against it.
The Europeans are against it.
The Muslims are against it.
We don't need to do this.
The threat is overblown.
The plan is an hysterical reaction to a problem that does not yet exist.
Hysteria is never a good basis for foreign policy.
Don't we ever learn?
Have we already forgotten Iraq?
The plan defies common sense.
If it's carried out, the Middle East, and possibly the world, will explode.
Oil will soar to over $100 a barrel, and gasoline will be over $5 a gallon.
Despite what some think, it won't serve the interests of Israel.
Besides-- it's illegal.
It's unconstitutional.
And you have no moral authority to do it.
We don't need it.
We don't want it.
So, Mr. President, don't do it.
Don't bomb Iran!
The moral of the story, Mr. Speaker, is this: if you don't have a nuke, we'll threaten to attack you. If you do have a nuke, we'll leave you alone. In fact, we'll probably subsidize you. What makes us think Iran does not understand this?

leaders leading

By lizbitchwitch

Boy oh boy our Chambers of Congress have been oh so busy legislating  the hell out of something; although unfortunately, not this country. The other day I woke up feeling a spark of hope again so I decided to give myself a reality check and take a stroll down the Chambers of Congress to see what they were up to.  Sure enough, that was all it took to ruin a good spark of hope.

Our Senators are very busy at work.  Who they are working for is still unanswered but what I found, I decided to share with all of you - maybe you too are experiencing some irrational hopefulness that could use a good dose of reality so here it is a day last week in the Senate:

First we have Senator Dan Vitter of Louisiana sponsoring S.CON.RES.8 and the summary of the resolution is as follows: A concurrent  resolution expressing the support of Congress for the Creation of  the National Hurricane Museum and Science Center in southwest Louisiana.

Thank you Senator for your bright idea and supportive stance on this endeavor. For that is EXACTLY what southwest Louisianna needs right now; a goddamned museum and science center for Christ Sake. What a way to lookout for your people!

The Senator writes in his resolution:
"Whereas a science center of this caliber will
educate and motivate young and old in the
    fields of  Meteorology, environmental
    science, sociology, conservation, economics,
    history, Communications, and engineering; "

They may not know how to spell these various fields of interest and that which motivates them.  They may not even know what these words mean but at least the will be educated in these fields.  What a way to keep the unschooled, unemployed and the homeless motivated and educated, Senator.  Why in the hell didn't we think of that before?  All this country needs is a freakin lot of museums and science centers and all of our troubles are resolved.

Here, stupid me,was just reading the other day abot how they had to suspend te teachers salaries in that same part of Louisianna and have yet to be able to resume that frivilous spending because of the states financial woes and thinking, they really need to do something to get those kids back in school.  It never occurred to me once to build a museum instead.  That is why you are the leader and I am the bitch who goes around pointing out the differences between you guys up there on the hill and us down here with both feet on the ground.

Senator, I also read, not so long ago in the AP that startd off like this:  Wanted - idealistic teachers looking for a Peace Corps-style adventure in a city in distress.  This was referring to New Orleans which I believe is right around the same area that you think is a perfect place for he new museum and the science center.  Here I was thinking that they could probably use some teachers and hopefully some good teachers will volunteer their services since Congress is supporting the building of a new museum and science center INSTEAD of some new schools and a few teachers salaries.  What a way to motivate, educate, house and employ all those constituents of yours.

I am sure, too, that they will all be very grateful for a chance to take a stroll down memory lane and be reminded of what started this new way of life for them.  They can learn about the hurricaine that led to the aftermath which led to the complete destruction of their entire lives again and again until someone thinks of something else fun for them to do.  They can learn all about how they came to spend their days in a goddamned musuem instead of school or at work or home - if they only had a home.

If they have lost their memory, I am sure your musuem will gladly spell it all out for them.  I am not sure what one puts in a hurricaine museum which is supposed to docment reconstruction efforts that are not happening but as long as it's not high winds and FEMA's Brownie - I am certain that all those citizens in that area will be ever so grateful to you for all your concern and brillant ideas on how to help them get back a life.  Way to go Senator.  Bravo!

To my fellow countrymen, how about a round of applause for the monkey with the cool new trick there in the center ring?

Everyone needs to WAKE UP!!! The alarm went off years ago, and apparently you're seriously hung over because you still have the pillow over your head!

The U.S. has meddled in middle eastern affairs since the discovery of Oil there in the Saudi Desert, so has Britain, France, and Russia. Of those interests, the U.S. economy is the largest and most aggressive, and successive U.S. Governments have pushed all of the middle eastern countries around and set up America friendly puppet Democracies when they could get them, and dictatorship regime's that are loyal to Washington, when they couldn't. This is a fact of life and history folks.

Britain, and France are old tired Empires that are decaying presenses in the middle east. Many countries in the region are old Colonies that have either gained their independence from revolution, or been granted them when it was apparent that they would revolt and neither Britain or France have the balls or stomach to go it alone in another war. "I say, another WAR? - WOT, cup 'a Tea?"  "Sacre Bleu!!! - Vin 'e Frommage??? (correct me on my french NAA)

The 20th Century started with the Industrial Revolution in America, and the world, but more widely in America was the use of Oil in it's different forms of refinement. While we were using Edison's new invention, the European's were still using Kerosene. That stayed the case until the patent's were applied and the copyright use permissions were granted for a nominal fee of course.

Meanwhile, those good old Boy's from Texas came along and then one day when they were shootin at some food, up from the ground came some bubblin crude, Oil that is, Texas Tea! If you think about the lyric's to the Beverly Hillbillies it makes perfect sense on a grand national scale. America's economic evolution has been centered around one thing. Guess what??????

The World Water Crisis

By sirius99
1/26/2007 at 01:08 AM EST

While researching data on The World Water Crisis, which I am sure is going to become even a greater problem than the World Energy Crisis (we managed to survive for a few hundred millennia before we discovered coal and oil, but we wouldn't have made it very long without water, or a good creek to piss in) I was amazed to discover this magnificent, all-inclusive and comprehensive document which told me a hellova lot more about the problem than I could ever have dreaded to know.

Seriously, water is a problem right now in many parts of the world and, in time, as demands grow even greater and supplies and access even lesser, it is going to be a real biggie.

A Real Biggie!

Probably not in our time, but that is small reason to be unconcerned about it.

But, never fear, eh, folks?  The problem is under study by the UN Human Development Commission!

Well, that may be part of the problem... finding out what the problem is and the scope of it.

The UN is a bureaucracy, no different, no more efficient, no less inefficient, than the bureaucracies throughout the rest of the world who might be expected to "solve" the world's problems.

Like all bureaucracies which have been in place for more than three days, it has become self-perpetuating, inviolate, and eternal; the perfect perpetual motion bureaucracy.

Their report can be found at the below URL, and may be downloaded and read, if you wish to understand the scope of the water problem.

The bureaucratic problem is that it takes them more than three hundred tightly written pages to just define the problem.

Now, just who in hell is going to read that many pages of bureaucratic gobble-de-goop to get to the bottom of the well?

And, like the credits trailer which follows every third rate movie you've seen lately, and has become almost a feature length production in itself, who finds meaning in the long list of names of each and every one who contributed to the effort, including the janitors who came in after the shop was shut down and hauled all of the pizza boxes and styrofoam coffee cups out to the dumpster?

You can download and read the entire mess if you care to.  I couldn't get through it.

Recommended reading only for those who are seeking government employment, and who want to pick up a few bureaucratic writing tips.

For those applying for positions at the UN, I recommend enclosing with your application a tightly written essay outlining your driving passions and career objectives, in no less that 682 pages.  Be sure to include names of your postman, your neighborhood crack dealer, your dog (or cat) and the old man who sleeps in the cardboard refrigerator carton down in the school playground.

Scenario's

By TranceAm
1/24/2007 at 10:55 PM EST

There are several scenario's playing out right now.

(And some of the scenarios are waiting for a Cusp (A decision, forced or made.)

One of the scenario's is based on the Israeli's going it their way. In bombing Iran's nuclear plants.
The Cusp for the US has already been made so is claimed by GWB and they will defend against any retaliation by Iran. (My big brother will help me beat you up.. as little children do on the schoolyard to get it their way.)
Hell, it would be an honor to see Billy Clinton grab a rifle to protect Israel. A thing he couldn't get himself to to do for his own country.

This could be a free decision, because Israel is claimed as the only democracy and "friend" in the Middle East. (Well with friends as below, one doesn't really need enemies.)
Or a forced decision, when that friend has its nukes really deployed over the world in peace time to have the world defend Israel, this since the worlds main cities depend on Israel's survival. Nuclear Global Blackmail. (Anyone vote for a descent independent 911 investigation with cheering Israeli's in New Jersey?)

America could attack Iran, heavily influenced by AIPAC, Jinsa, Neo-Cons and other automatic Israeli's that will lead America by the nose to get Israel where and what it wants.
It ain't completely clear to me what they are going to do in the heavily nuclear contaminated biblical land when Iran retaliates.
Oh, and no, this ain't new for anyone with a brain... The Iranians are far from stupid, they overtrumped the Americans before..  In spite of international <western> agiprop claims of being backward or god forbid, in their survival struggle for their own identity, evil.

Now What?

By TranceAm
1/22/2007 at 05:19 AM EST

It is time that we start talking a little more.

Talk and talk and talk...
Consume the first amendment as long as we think it exists.

For instance, the First Amendment declares that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Applying Gonzales's reasoning, one could argue that the First Amendment doesn't explicitly say Americans have the right to worship as they choose, speak as they wish or assemble peacefully. The amendment simply bars the government, i.e. Congress, from passing laws that would impinge on these rights.

Similarly, Article I, Section 9, of the Constitution states that "the privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it."

The clear meaning of the clause, as interpreted for more than two centuries, is that the Founders recognized the long-established English law principle of habeas corpus, which guarantees people the right of due process, such as formal charges and a fair trial.

That Attorney General Gonzales would express such an extraordinary opinion, doubting the constitutional protection of habeas corpus, suggests either a sophomoric mind or an unwillingness to respect this well-established right, one that the Founders considered so important that they embedded it in the original text of the Constitution.

The 110th Congress

By lizbitchwitch
1/21/2007 at 01:26 PM EST

The Democrats are off and running and a 100 hours later and we still get a whole lot of nothing.  I don't know about you all but I am totally unimpressed by the democrat's big debut in Congress and the Senate, for that matter.  Everyone is hooting and hollering and cheering and applauding.  One can hear sighs of relief from coast to coast now  the Dems are  in charge of our legislative branch of our government.  The Dems seem to be reveling in their new found (and long lost) power with smiles on their faces and an urge to pat each other on the back.  They are oh so concerned with we, the people that I can't even tell there has been a change.

They have sworn to separate the lobbying from the legislating (can't wait to see that neat trick) and fight corruption in the houses of our congress (nothing like the corrupt in charge of punishing corruption, eh).  They have stood up against corruption and spoken out against war profiteering.  They called for an ethics reform as well and it's all so impressive (although I have no idea who).  Blah blah blah!

If they are so concerned with ethics and cleaning up corruption then why in the hell aren't they impeaching the President and his team.  They are all war criminals and profiteering team leaders for Christ sake.  They sure are concerned with all this corruption, scandals and lack of ethics, can't you tell?  That is why they have let our nation's top leading criminals remain in power and have refused to move to impeach them.  All their talk on morals and ethics are totally laughable until they move to walk the walk instead of talking the talk.

Oh and look, they have taken an interest in education where the previous congress has attempted to debilitate our education system even further than it already suffered.  They have cut the interest rates in half for those students or graduates still paying their student loans back, Whoopee!  Way to go.  Here we have all these children without access to schools or the basic education that they, as American citizens, are entitled to and our 110th congress is helping out all those who have already learned to read and write and add and subtract.  Really helpful, I tell you.  The last thing that people need in this country is higher education taught in this country.

Oh but before we forget, they also proposed to raise the amount of the Pell grant, Hooray!  There will be fewer to go around, of course and less money for earmarking for the public school system but hell, they are still helping the little guy, right?

In my estimation, the very few people that will be affected by this legislation will feel a positive impact in their lives in a very minimal way.  The graduates will save a whooping $30.00 a month (which they will need to pay their electric bills and gasoline bills) and the Pell grant recipients will have to drop out of school anyway to raise their own children since they have no school to go to.

I am very frustrated with the 110th Congress.  Why, if they are so damned concerned about education, are they not addressing the problem with the basic, public education system in this country?

Let's see what else they did...ah yes, the 9/11 commission recommendations are up for implementation, Hallelujah!  Instead of conducting a real, independent, bi-partisan investigation which delivers a report which doesn't have most of it blacked out for security purposes (a little late for focusing on security, don't you think?), they are just going to take this commissions word for it. The president's team of friends surely is worthy and their recommendations (weren't they blacked out too) are worth the effort.

I got a better idea, let's conduct a REAL investigation with a REAL independent and since there is no thing as bi-partisian (which would insinuate that there are more than one party with more than one agenda) why don't we pick citizens - like they do when they need a jury.  We will be the judge of what constitutes truth and what recommendations to give.  Let's ask everyone if they are willing to risk the security the truth would risk so we can get the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth - we don't need mom and dad telling us what is for our own good.  How about that, Dems?

I did like the idea of them focusing on the one thing that never made sense to me.  If the attacks on the WTC were from terrorists (which they weren't - and if they were, they were coordinated with American officials) why wouldn't they focus on cargo instead of people.  They harass the people yet they let our ports be run by people who support terrorism and allow all cargo planes to go uninspected. I mean anyone who looks middle eastern is on the no fly list anyway unless they are friends of the President's and Bin Laden's relatives - then they get a first class escort out of the no fly zone by plane - so the racism has that part covered...but the cargo could cause big problems. Well maybe they are thinking just a little, those dems. Oh wait, here comes lieberman - the money it would cost to inspect those cargo planes are just too  much - it's way less then harrassing the people's bill is but that is fun and useless and that is what we like to do.  WE can't afford to do anything for our real security because we are busy fighting illegal wars and creating security problems for the future right now so the money is all tied up.  Besides - with all the ethics and corruption talk we don't want to bust all the politicians who are importing tax free drugs and weapons and all sorts of illegal goods to support their side businesses - we would look like hipocryts or something.  Oh Brother! But speaking of the Iraq war (the illegal war that is taking up all our money )

Why are they pussy footing around this Iraq War withdrawal?  They got elected and got the majority because of their outrage against this on-going illegal war.  Making statements about how they would bring the troops home now.  They never could do what they wanted to do before because, you know, those damned republicans were in charge.  Well now they are not, and the Dems have several avenues of ending this war - none of which require much time, thought or strategic planning.  It's simple.  You cut the funding, and then the troops come home.  You don't debate, you don't ask for time lines - you just do whatever is necessary and within your reach to ensure that the boys and girls come home now.  Are they doing it?  Hell no!  They just talk a bunch of horseshit about timelines, plans, withdrawal and the whole time the killing goes on and the torture and the untold hundreds of thousands of innocent people keep adding up and our soldiers coming home in body bags too.  I'm sick of the lies, the bullshit and their attempt to look like our knights in shining amour coming to our rescue.  It's horse shit.

Oh and here they come again - swinging the stethoscope around their necks.  Looks like they have promised a few seniors on Medicare that they are giving the government the right to negotiate lower drug prices with Medicare, well blow me down and then just blow me!  Like the government is more trustworthy than the current criminals negotiating prices.  Wasn't it the government in the first place who set this up to make it harder for the elderly and the poor and the infirm, well I think it was so I am certain that those sick, elder, poor people can really look forward to being able to afford at least one of their prescriptions and to eat - but hopefully they won't get too damned greedy and expect to pay for their electricity so they can have heat too - I mean let's not be unreasonable, people.  Seriously folks, is anyone feeling like they want to smack the smile right off some of those sleezy democrats face - especially Lieberman and Pelosi.

I have an idea, let's legislate in favor of a universal health care system and take some government action to return the health industry from the lions mouth of big business back to the compassionate, dedicate healing agenda that it should have.

Yes, we know you just promoted stem cell research by demanding more funds go toward it.  That will do a lot of good right now in the middle of everything.  Just think of all those people ridden with fatal diseases due to lack of corporate accountability and other failures of our government to protect us from will be full of hope that someday (maybe even before their disease kills them) their will be a cure.  Of course they won't be able to afford it but it will give them and their loved ones an incentive to buy some lottery tickets or head toward the casino, perhaps and well that stimulates the economy and we all benefit from that.  Yeah, yeah we know how this works and for some reason we aren't feeling too lucky having you people in charge either.

What about the press and all the many issues surrounding the preservation of a free and independent and varied media?  You know, the one ingredient to preserving a democracy that a nation of the people; by the people and for the people have little to no chance of keeping without?  How about the fact that our military intentionally targets journalist who cover the Iraq war amongst other things?  How about addressing the problems with the FCC and how they are ironically doing the exact things that they were established to ensure wouldn't be done with our media.  There are media monopolies to legislate over;  there are political parties purchasing "news clips" and there are corporate owners with significant conflicts of interest as far as the news they should be or are reporting and their other investments.

Oh and another pretty big issue for the people, one in which we have no chance of remaining sovereign unless someone up there on shill hill addresses the problem and speaks for us about it is the election system.  Hello?  Civil Servants?  Voice of the People?  Anyone listening?  We have an election system riddled with problems and one in which has caused quite the ruckus over the last few elections.  Security breaches, convicted felons owning the companies we are buying the machines from, and huge red flags flying high and wide - telling us and I think you speak the same language and therefore telling all of you civil heroes the democratic party that we have a big problem with the ONLY hand we the people have in the policies that govern us and those that enforce them.  So I suggest you pay attention.  Did you miss the one really big RED FLAG that was flying all over the place making sure everyone saw it?  You know the one in where a supreme court put a man in the white house rather than the people electing him there?  Well I suggest you forget all this bullshit - we don't care about honoring anyone worth honoring - it's not important - so quit taking votes on the crap.  Any honorable person would be dishonored to know that you have stuck their official honoring before these very important and critical issues.  We don't care what the hell you name a goddamned federal park or who you want to dedicate that post office to.  We don't give a shit - so stop wasting time and get to the real business.

So there you have it, folks.  We have a bunch of democrats dressed in armor (made out of gold thanks to us tax payers) riding in on a horse's ass and the President's pet goat  and I may be a damsel in distress but it will be a cold day in hell before I jump on the back of one of those fuel efficient rides with any of those masked men.  It's safer down here on the ground where people see more clearly - Fuck this crap - I'm writing every one of them and telling them what I think of their little song and dance.  Especially Pelosi and her newly lifted face!  Unbelieveable

Checkmate in one.

One doesn't see very often good writing, with a logic one just can't deny or replace with !logic.

I just laughed my (prove)*(rbial) off when I read this:

Well, Mr. Bush, Jr. I have some impertinent questions for you.

Mr. President, Sir, when reporter Bob Woodward asked you if you had consulted with your father before ordering our army into Iraq you said, "No, he's not the father you call on a decision like this. I talked to my heavenly Father above." My question, Mr. President: If God asked you to bombard, invade and occupy Iraq for four years, why did he send an opposite message to the Pope?
